Thinking about my words

We are doing a series on Sunday's called In and Out. We are talking about how we are shaped by what goes in our ears and comes out of our mouths. I have been working on this weeks message about the words that come out of our mouths, and it really has me thinking about the words that I say. It's so easy to just let things come out of our mouths without really thinking about how they will effect others. In my study for this message I have tried to be extra conscious of my words, and even with this extra effort I have found that I have still said things that I shouldn't have, or in ways that I shouldn't have said them.
I'm interested. Am I the only one who struggles with this? Tell me about your struggle with your words. What do you think we can do to be better in this area of our lives?

I dont struggle with anything, I'm perfect. JK! Rachael and I were just discussing this the other day. We both have to work on how we speak to one another when we are around other people. It's wierd, we usually show more respect for one another with our words when we are alone, than when we are around other people. It is usually just joking around, but not everyone gets our humor. It's something that we are working on, and that is the biggest part, admitting that there is an issue.

Word are so powerful, words that hurt are so hard to take back, I saw this illustration once with toothpaste of all things, but with each hurtful word toothpaste was squeezed onto the paper, then the illustrator told the one saying the hurtful words to take them back, apologize, by doing this he told the one speaking to put the toothpaste back into the tube, he couldn't. Hurtful words spoken over someone you cannot take back, you can ask for forgiveness but it does something to the person you spoke them to, I have to watch my words and tone around my daughter and husband, this blog post has really made me analyze to think about what I say and the tone used to say it.

I struggle with this alot. Many times I say what's on my mind without thinking about what I really might be saying. Then later mull over everything in my head wondering if I offended anyone. I pray that God would help me to watch my words before they come out so I don't have to worry about them later!! :)
